I like to pride myself on being quite a positive and optimistic person.
If I could boil my character down into one sentence, it would be this:
I bring the joy, the fun and encouragement to the room.
Like, that’s my mission.
Except for when I’m scared.
And this week, I was there.
I was scared. Petrified even. So much so I’d decided my children wouldn’t be attending school even before the closure was announced. (PLOT TWIST: They stayed three more days before I said enough was enough!)
But you know what I didn’t do. Or at least, I (wrongly) felt like I couldn’t do?
Be honest about my fears for fear of being called out…for not being a good enough christian.
DAMAGE TO ONE, DAMAGE TO ALL
I know it sounds silly but I bet I’m not alone when I say that.
I bet many, at times, feel “Christian Shamed!”
IMO, these two words seem so juxtaposed but it turns out, it is something that’s more common than you and I could even imagine.
“Why didn’t you have faith?”
“Your faith is too small!”
“You’re a baby christian.”
These are all terms I’ve heard before and sadly, many within the body have probably heard often.
And these terms are damaging. To our faith and to us as a body.
THE WAR WE ENDURE
It’s because of terms like this that people suffer in silence. People shy away from sharing their vulnerabilities and struggles often choosing to tarry alone.
But it wasn’t supposed to be so.
We are a body after all. And every part of the Body is made to support another part. The same way the small toe creates balance in the body is the same way one person creates balance in The Body.
But what happens when we war with one another?
Separate through differences and division?
What happens when people are too scared to speak up, talk and share the problem.
The Body doesn’t function at it’s best.
A PROBLEM SHARED
Let me make a long story short and tell you that I did eventually share my worry and guess what?
I was met with plenty of support and people feeling the same way. I was given advice on how to deal with the fear and reminded of the fact that we’re all in this together with Him.
And that was it. The problem didn’t disappear but the weight of worry was and is, all but gone.
So if that’s you and you’re struggling with the fear of what the future holds, I want to remind and encourage you today.
You’re not alone and if you opened up, you would see just how true that is
God knows every struggle and secret battle you are facing even if you’re closest friends don’t. And He has a solution for every situation in the form of His Son Jesus.
So please talk to Him. If you don’t know where to start, I recommend reading the book of Matthew to get to know and understand the person of Jesus. I highly recommend using the Voice Translation Bible to help understand the text of the Bible
God isn’t surprised by any of this , so you better believe He has a plan and a purpose that will prevail even in this. I’m praying for you. x
P.S: If you ever want to talk, please get in touch! xx
